About us
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide, on call, a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With our lifeboats, lifeguards, safety messages and flood rescue we are committed to saving more lives.
The RNLI’s lifeboat station in Barry Dock is looking for a volunteer to take on the role the role of All Weather Lifeboat Mechanic.
Established in 1901 and covering all of the Bristol Channel from Sharpness to Foreland Point, both the English and Welsh coastlines and flanked by seven ILB stations to support. Barry Dock Lifeboat operates an All Weather Shannon Class Lifeboat and an Inshore D Class Lifeboat.
The role of the ALB Mechanic is to have daytime availability and have employer's permission to respond to the pager during working hours to crew the lifeboat as a mechanic on service, exercise, passages and trials, to maintain competence under Competency Based Training (CoBT) and to contribute to the operational efficiency of the lifeboat station, lifeboats and equipment.

If you are a team player with an understanding of mechanical/electrical systems and the ability to learn new skills this could be the role for you. You must live or work No more than a safe 10-15mins travel distance of Barry Island and be between 18 and 65 years of age.
*** Skills in plant and machinery maintenance background or volunteers interested in training to become a volunteer mechanic (desirable)
