Deputy Lifeboat Press Officer - Weymouth
About us
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide, on call, a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With our lifeboats, lifeguards, safety messages and flood rescue we are committed to saving more lives.
Weymouth Lifeboat Station is looking for a volunteer to join the team in the role of deputy lifeboat press officer.
Weymouth is one of the RNLI’s busiest lifeboat stations on the south coast, undertaking around 100 launches each year. It operates two lifeboats, Ernest and Mabel, a Severn class all-weather lifeboat, and Jack & Phyl Cleare, a B class Atlantic 85 class lifeboat.
The lifeboat crew are volunteers, headed up by a full time Coxswain and Mechanic and supported by the Lifeboat Operations Manager and Deputy Launching Authorities. The wider team includes Admin Support, Sea Safety Fundraising, Station Visits and Shop volunteers.
The role of deputy lifeboat press officer involves building and maintaining friendly relationships with local press, radio, television and online media. You’ll be involved in keeping the community informed of operational activity, promote newsworthy rescues and lifeboat station events, using a variety of channels, such as email, phone, or social media, using photos and video where possible.
This is a good opportunity to join a motivated and enthusiastic local team and have the satisfaction of contributing to saving lives at sea. If you have good communication, writing and IT skills this could be the role for you. The successful applicant will receive thorough training, including press release writing, uploading content to the RNLI news website and video editing.
