About us

The RNLI’s Lifeboat Station in Hoylake is looking for a volunteer to take on the role of Lifeboat Head Launcher.

Established in 1803, Hoylake is one of the oldest lifeboat stations in the UK, although its boathouse and Shannon class lifeboat are state-of-the-art. It covers Liverpool Bay and the approaches to the River Mersey and River Dee.

The impact you will make

This role will help us save lives at sea by ensuring that all working parts of the launching and recovery equipment are prepared and ready for each lifeboat launch.

What you will be doing

  • Oversee the launch and recovery of the Lifeboat and Hovercraft for services and exercises under the direction of the Coxswain, Helm or Commander
  • Lead the Shore crew team
  • Maintain competence under Competency Based Training
  • Assist the station mechanic and/or coast staff with maintenance and repairs as appropriate
  • Contribute to the operational efficiency of the station, lifeboats and equipment

  • Ability to learn new skills
  • Live or work within 3 miles of the station and be between 18 and 70 years of age.
