About us

The RNLI’s lifeboat station in Clifden is looking for a volunteer to take on the role of Inshore Lifeboat Mechanic and Vehicle Maintainer.

Situated in an area of spectacular scenery, Clifden Lifeboat Station provides search and rescue cover off the west coast of Ireland. The station operates an all-weather Shannon class lifeboat and an inshore B class Atlantic 85 lifeboat.

The impact you will make

This role will help us save lives at sea by ensuring that the Inshore Lifeboat, Launch and Recovery Vehicle and associated equipment is maintained and ready for service.

What you will be doing

  • Ensuring that the Inshore Lifeboat, Launch and Recovery Vehicle and associated equipment is kept operational.
  • Carrying out planned maintenance and repairs.
  • Conducting unplanned defect investigation.
  • Reporting on the status of the lifeboat as required.
  • Achieving and maintaining competence under the RNLI Competency Framework and following RNLI procedures and guidance.
  • Contributing to the training of other volunteers.
  • If you are a team player with local maritime knowledge and the ability to learn new skills this could be the role for you.

  • Ability to learn new skills
  • Understanding of safe working practices in a lifeboat station or similar
  • Understanding of mechanical/electrical systems
  • Local maritime and RNLI knowledge (desirable)
  • Be between 18 and 65 years of age
