About Us
The RNLI’s Lifeboat Station in Pwllheli is looking for a volunteer Level 1 Lifeboat Medical Adviser.
Located on the Lleyn Peninsula, Pwllheli Lifeboat Station operates an all-weather carriage-launched Shannon class lifeboat and an inshore D class lifeboat. During its history the crews have been presented with five awards for gallantry.
The impact you will make
This role will help us save lives at sea by carrying out RNLI health assessments to ensure our crew meet the required medical standards to maintain our service.
What you will be doing
- Conduct health assessments for enrolled crew and shore helpers in line with RNLI Health Assessments Protocol
- Maintaining awareness of relevant RNLI and policies, procedures and general medical standards.
- Support casualty care training locally (requires successful completion of the RNLI Casualty Care Course)
- Attendance at the RNLI medical conference ever two years at the RNLI Support Centre in Poole.
You will be required to carry out the following assessments:
- Completion of a Full Health Assessment Questionnaire via our Occupational Health System – OPAS G2
- This includes the following:
- Blood pressure and pulse
- Urine Dip Stick test
- Visual Acuity Test (using a Snellen chart) and colour vision test using Ishihara plates

What you need for this role
- You must hold a GMC / IMC Registration
- Have access to an appropriate space to carry out RNLI health assessments
- Any specialist equipment and training will be provided by the RNLI
- IT experience is desirable but not required
- This is an ashore role, no seagoing experience is required
