About Us

The RNLI’s Lifeboat Station in Aberdeen is looking for a volunteer to join the existing team in the role of Social Media Officer. 

Operating from the heart of Europe’s oil capital, Aberdeen’s Severn class all weather lifeboat and D class inshore lifeboat are always ready to respond to anyone in difficulty on or off the Granite City’s shores. 

The impact you will make 

You will help us save lives at sea by promoting our work and engaging with supporters on social media platforms. 

What you will be doing 

  • Keeping your local social media channels up to date with details of lifesaving activity, lifeboat station events and RNLI campaigns.
  • Engaging with supporters on local social media channels by replying to comments, answering questions and encouraging them to comment and share our posts with others.
  • Identifying opportunities to establish relationships with local community groups
  • Thinking of innovative ways to drive online engagement and fundraising.
  • Supporting RNLI national campaigns by sharing and adapting messages to engage with a local audience.
  • Sharing best practice and keeping the Lifeboat Press Officer and Regional Media Team informed of all activity and reputational concerns.

What you need for this role 

  • Excellent writing, communication, and IT skills
  • Good interpersonal and media relations skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible
  • Influencing, tact and diplomacy skills
  • Interest in new media/video editing/photography
