About Us

The RNLI’s lifeboat station in Douglas is looking for a volunteer to take on the role the role of All Weather Lifeboat Mechanic. 

One of five lifeboat stations in the Isle of Man, and home to the founder of the RNLI, Sir William Hillary. The crews have been presented with 21 awards for gallantry. 

The impact you will make 

This role will help us save lives at sea by ensuring that our lifeboats are in a state of permanent readiness, responding to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and by being part of the crew during rescue situations dealing with any mechanical issues that arise. 

What you will be doing 

  • Provide cover for the full-time Station Mechanic (where appropriate) during their weekend leave and other periods of absence
  • This is a shorebased only role
  • Maintain competence under Competency Based Training
  • Contribute to the operational efficiency of the lifeboat station, lifeboats and equipment

What you need for this role 

  • Team player
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to learn new skills
  • Local maritime and RNLI knowledge (desirable)
  • Live or work within close proximity of the station and be between 18 and 65 years of age
