About us

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide, on call, a 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With our lifeboats, lifeguards, safety messages and flood rescue we are committed to saving more lives.

Could you bring people together, build positive relationships and help make a difference in your local community?

Burnham On Crouch Lifeboat Station is looking for an enthusiastic and inclusive volunteer to become our Lifeboat Management Group (LMG) Chair.

As LMG Chair, you’ll play an important role in bringing together the different parts of the RNLI’s local work - including lifeboat operations, fundraising, community engagement and water safety  - helping everyone work together towards our shared purpose of saving lives.

What will you do?

You’ll chair quarterly meetings, bringing local leaders together to share information, celebrate successes, identify opportunities and agree priorities. You’ll help ensure that different teams understand and support each other’s work and that important information is shared across the station and wider community.

You’ll also build relationships with local stakeholders and act as a key point of contact for non-operational RNLI matters.

This is a role for someone who enjoys bringing people together, listening to different perspectives, encouraging collaboration and helping others achieve their best. You don’t need to be a lifeboat crew member or have maritime experience - we’re looking for someone with the confidence and people skills to lead conversations and see the bigger picture.

Could this be you?

You might already have experience of chairing meetings, leading teams, managing projects or bringing people together - either professionally or through volunteering. Perhaps you’re a manager, community leader, business owner or someone looking to use your skills in a different way.

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who:

  • Communicates confidently and listens to others
  • Can bring people with different roles and perspectives together
  • Builds positive and trusted relationships
  • Is organised and comfortable facilitating meetings
  • Can encourage collaboration and constructive challenge
  • Is passionate about the RNLI and its lifesaving mission
  • Wants to make a difference in the local community

No maritime experience is necessary and full training and support will be provided.

What’s in it for you?

This is a fantastic opportunity to use and develop your leadership, communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills while contributing to a cause that saves lives.

You’ll meet people from across the RNLI and your local community, gain valuable experience and become part of a motivated and enthusiastic team.

The role typically requires 2–6 hours per week and is for an initial three-year term. Reasonable travel and lunch expenses are covered, and training and development will be provided.

Ready to make a difference?

If you’re someone who enjoys connecting people, making things happen and helping others work towards a shared goal, we’d love to hear from you.

You don’t have to be a lifeboat expert. You just need to bring your people skills, your enthusiasm and your commitment to helping save lives.
