Lifeboat Medical Adviser Level 1- Larne

About us

The RNLI’s Lifeboat Station in Larne is looking for a volunteer Level 1, 2 or 3 Lifeboat Medical Adviser.

Larne Lifeboat Station was established in 1994 and lifeboats have been launching into the waters of East Antrim and the North Channel from Larne ever since. Today we operate an inshore D class lifeboat and an all-weather Trent class lifeboat. The Lifeboat Crew are all volunteers, headed up by the Lifeboat Operations Manager and Launch Authorities and supported by a Shore Crew team. All boat and shore crew follow the RNLI’s national Competency Based Training Scheme and respond to pagers when there is a request to launch the lifeboats. The wider team includes volunteer fundraisers, shop volunteers and youth education presenters.

The impact you will make

This role will help us save lives at sea by providing medical advice and support to our lifeboat crew to enable the efficient working of the lifeboat service.

What you will be doing

• Conduct medical examinations for enrolled crew and shore helpers in line with RNLI medical standards
• Keep the Lifeboat Operations Manager and Lifeboat Management Group Chairman regularly appraised of medical matters.

What you need for this role

• Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills
• Ability to maintain trust and integrity
• Knowledge of the RNLI and roles of crew members (desirable)
• Current license to be on the list of Registered Medical Practitioners
• Medical negligence indemnity insurance
• Willing and able to be on call to attend medical emergencies (desirable)
