Volunteer Digital Tester
Volunteer Digital Tester
What is a Digital website tester?
Our digital team are always looking at ways to improve our website and digital journeys for their audiences – be it staff, volunteers, supporters, or people brand new to the RNLI. One way that we can gather invaluable insights is by testing the journeys with actual users.
This allows us to observe how people are interacting with our website, noting where things may be confusing or where there are opportunities to make certain tasks easier.
We are on a journey to make our digital platforms as accessible as possible and would love our testing audience to be as diverse as possible, in order to be able to save everyone.
What you will be doing
When we are working on digital journeys or areas of the website and need insights from the people that use them, we contact our panel of Digital testers to see who is suitable to take part.
- Testing opportunities are largely online, over the video calling software Teams
- They can range from 40mins – 1 hour long
- You’ll be on a call with 1 or 2 of our Digital or User Experience team
- We’ll ask for your permission to screenshare and record the call, ask some intro questions and then move into the short tasks.
- The ‘testing’ usually comprises of us asking you to complete a few tasks on the website, whilst we observe and ask questions as we go along.
- We might also send you links to take part in other testing activities where you complete a task at your own pace, at a time you choose and unobserved.
This is a great volunteer opportunity for someone who wants to help make our websites and communications better, by telling us your open and honest opinions. We use the feedback to raise more funds, reach more people and support our communities better. You don't need any specific experience or familiarity with the RNLI. Just some time and your thoughts.
The impact you will make

What you need for this role
- A stable internet connection and a device that can support video calling and screen-sharing – such as a mobile, laptop or tablet.
- You will have the opportunity to let us know if you use any assistive technology or need any reasonable adjustments.
What’s in it for you?
- Have the satisfaction of giving back and knowing your feedback is helping to shape and improve the RNLI’s digital services.
- Develop your skills and experience within the supportive environment of this leading national charity
- Volunteer at a time that suits you, as much as little as you want, with this very flexible role.
